iTunes Shuffle 3/27/15

1. Makali - "Il faut du temps au temps"
2. Primal Scream - "Loaded"
3. Moby - "Inside"
4. Cold Country - "To Providence"
5. Magic Wands - "Black Magic"
6. Bonnie "Prince" Billy - "I See A Darkness"
7. Emily Reid - "The River"
8. Meat Puppets - "Waiting"
9. Michael Bublé - "A Foggy Day (In London Town)" (orig. sung by Fred Astaire)
10. Big Star - "Kanga Roo"

It always bodes well when we start with a French chanson. The whole first half is lovely, leading to the highlight, the Bonnie "Prince" Billy song. The Emily Reid song is quite nice, though it took me ten minutes of Googling to figure out who the fuck she was. If you like that Katie Herzig sound that's proliferating out of Nashville (and I do), you will like her. Meat Puppets wonderful, of course, and like him or hate him, Michael Bublé does deliver those old standards well. And then Big Star. GREAT MIX, my goodness.

iTunes Shuffle 3/20/15

1. Lukah Luciano ft. Alexander - "Concrete Jungle"
2. Savages - "Husbands"
3. ABBA - "Take A Chance On Me"
4. Eric Clapton - "Cocaine" (JJ Cale cover)
5. Tori Amos - "Honey" (with short cover of Elvis Costello's "She" as intro, live 11/12/01, Oakland, CA)
6. Oneohtrix Point Never - "Blue Drive"
7. Anaïs Mitchell - "Ships"
8. Incubus - "Blood On The Ground"
9. Turnover - "Pray For Me"
10. Library Voices - "Generation Handclap"

Lukah Luciano is a local Memphis rapper and he is great. Savages are wonderful, listen if you like old Joy Division and stuff like that. ABBA, Tori, I somehow need all that this week. I specifically uploaded the live bootleg version of "Honey" with the "She" intro, because it seemed necessary.

Second half includes Anaïs Mitchell, one of the best singer-songwriters out there.

iTunes Shuffle 3/13/15

1. JD McPherson - "North Side Gal"
2. The Boxing Lesson - "Drone To Sleep"
3. The Horrors - "Wild Eyed"
4. Bassnectar - "Voodoo" (Beats Antique remix)
5. Brahms: Serenade No. 2 In A Major, Op. 16 - Scherzo. Vivace (Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra)
6. Tori Amos - "Frog On My Toe"
7. Obliterations - "Kick Against The Pricks"
8. American Landscape Painting - "You Guys Are My Best Friends"
9. The Drums - "Down By The Water" (The Soundmen remix)
10. Grimes - "Caladan"

Well, JD McPherson starts this off dancing. Good for the early mornings when I listen to these mixes. The Beats Antique treatment of the Bassnectar is also a good, energetic thing. Then we move into Brahms, followed by one of my very all time-favorite Tori Amos songs.

But this mix, the one that made me jump up and holler, is the remix of The Drums. HOLY SHIT. Yeah, that.

And Grimes kicks ass too. Great mix.

iTunes Shuffle 3/6/15

1. Sandra McCracken - "All The Miles"
2. The Drums - "Hard To Love"
3. Chic Gamine - "Closer"
4. Alicia Keys - "Caged Bird"
5. Katy B - "Katy On A Mission"
6. Rihanna ft. The XX - "Drunk On Love"
7. Neko Case - "City Swan"
8. Elvis Costello & The Attractions - "I Hope You're Happy Now" (acoustic)
9. Ryan Adams - "Hickory Wind" (live, The Byrds cover)
10. Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken - "From You To Me"

This mix is just fuckin' GREAT.

Sandra McCracken is so amazing. Do you like Patty Griffin? You will like Sandra. She is technically a Christian artist, but unlike so much "Christian" music, she doesn't suck!

This mix is all about the girls, until the end when Elvis Costello (didn't we just have that song like 3 weeks ago?) and the incredible Ryan Adams make an appearance.

Finally, a song from Sandra again, with her then-husband, Derek Webb. They are not married anymore so :(

iTunes Shuffle 2/27/15

1. Hey Champ - "Shake"
2. Alex Turner - "Stuck On The Puzzle"
3. Bosnian Rainbows - "Morning Sickness"
4. Brian Eno - "Stars"
5. Cass McCombs - "Love Thine Enemy"
6. Jeffrey James - "Tell Me"

9. Ty Dolla $ign ft. B.o.B. & Kid Ink - "Creez"
10. Schumann:  Romance in F-Sharp Major, Op. 28, No. 2 (Evelyne Dubourg, piano)

Here is your weird weekly mix. It's all pretty good, but what's REALLY good is My Brightest Diamond. She is just such a gem. Also digging Alex Turner and Bosnian Rainbows. Brian Eno, of course. Put that one at naptime. Cass McCombs super cool as always. Etc.
